The storm

Yesterday, we had a windstorm. I’ve noticed that since moving to The Island, we’ve had a lot of windstorms. On at least three different occasions, we’ve lost power. But the storm we had yesterday was a doozy. The tops of the trees were bending back and forth. The stoplights were swinging, the poles swaying. When I stepped outside, my long hair was lifted and was swept around and around. The wind chime at our front door was clanging violently. We lost power. The whole island lost power. Several counties around us, for hundreds of miles lost power. None of the stores were open. You can see the ocean from our back deck and it was full of whitecaps. The clouds were moving at warp speed. After things had calmed down a bit, a huge rainbow appeared on the horizon. We live on a hill, with a view of the city, so when the sun set, it was such a trip to see the entire town black, not one single speck of light. It was fucking insane and cool all at the same time.

The electricity stayed off all night long. Luckily we have a gas fireplace that kept us warm and a gas stove so we could eat dinner. My parents played monopoly with the boys and it gave B and I an excuse to get drunk. Oh wait, we drink every night-no excuse needed. By 8PM we were all so bored that we went to bed and woke up this morning with LIGHT. What an adventure.
