Advice needed

I figure at least 50 people per day visit my site. Today, I’m asking you to fill up my comments section.

I’m feeling extremely fatigued. I cannot locate the exact source, but I suspect that this may be due to some depression that’s been lurking in these past few weeks.

Spam me! I need some natural, holistic type advice regarding depression and fatigue. My diet is not perfect, but certainly better than the average American. I am currently taking no vitamins or supplements either. Blank slate. Please help.

Get out for a walk even. I find that helps me when I get bad, but I have to have my ass booted out the door.

Eating better helps as well, but mainly, get outside.

Just delurking to say hi. I can’t offer any advice in the diet department (as I sit here eating my chicken with hot sauce), but wanted to send you good vibes anyway… take care and hope you and your family are doing better soon.

Multi-vit, Vit C, and B5. They can all help. Sleep, exercise, lots of green leafys, and meditation. Even 10 mins a day will help calm yr adrenal glands which get burnt out under chronic stress.

Sunshine (it’s out there today), fresh air, girls night out, vitamins, time alone, a massage and a good chic flick. Works for me.

girlfriends. know you’re loved by so many. Also honey. eat stuff with honey, it helps me. Drink tea with honey, eat a spoonful everyday, it’s very close to a natural vitamin. and keep taking Kai for walks… I’m sorry you’re feeling low. i love you, you’re so wonderful!!!

Since you are still nursing, it might benefit you to go back on a good prenatal vitamin. You are hardly more than 1 yr postpartum, and you are still nursing; your body is still recovering from childbirth and you are still depleted. This could impact your energy level. B vitamins (should be in a prenatal vit) are fab for getting your energy back, if you are short on them.

Have you had your iron level checked lately? Is there a possibility you are anemic? This could account for your low energy level, especially since you have had such heavy cycles lately. If so, I liked Floradix Iron Plus Herbs liquid supplement. It tastes like V8 splash, is totally natural, and is non-constipating.

Don’t forget to just cut yourself some slack as far as how much time & energy it takes to chase Animal and Kai all day, and to feed and comfort A. at night. Is he still waking a lot at night with teething? You are sleep deprived and might be for a while. I’m in the same boat, but sometimes it’s comforting to know that what you are going through is a normal phase and there’s nothing technically wrong with you.

I’m a lurker… (shame, shame). Coming out of the dark to offer three small things that could help. Of course, I wish that I could tell you that those three things are alcohol, chocolate, and becoming a wildly popular and over-paid entertainer… But try this:
    LEMON
It’s the most incredible food. (A little lemon in a lot of water each morning). Google it. Lemon ROCKS.
    HYDRATION
one half your body weight, in ounces, per day. Period.
    VIT. D
I think someone else said this already too…

    Hang in there, Mama.

Fresh food, vitamins, as much daylight and fresh air as you can get, enough liquid intake and regular sleeping hours, that works for me.

Vitamin B (I find the Emergen-C drink packets give me a lot of energy). Fresh air, sunshine (which you already get as much as you can, probably, given your geography and your walks with the dog). Giggles? Laughter for me is a big one. Girl talk? I call everyone I known when I’m depressed and it totally helps. Sleep. A little wine. Some orgasms.

um, if you’ve been bleeding pretty badly with your IUD, I would tip anemia. Get thee to a good iron supplement pronto, girly. Have your doc check your hemoglobin.
That would account for the fatigue and the depression. 😦
    Easily fixed though!
    Thinking of you…

I just recently started reading your blog, I found it through my best friend green mommy. You know this summer I hit a phase where I was super tired. I did not even feel like going for a walk or run on my lunch hour, and I do that often. I had the doctor run iron and thryoid tests and they came back fine. I think I was really bored at work, I stared at the computer screen (usually reading blogs and the news – there was no work to do). You are probably not bored, being a stay at home mommy to three kids and becoming a doula you are too busy to be bored. Do you take any time for yourself? Maybe an afternoon off – try trading off with a friend. Sorry about the marrital problems but you should not have to deal with a husband that comes home drunk all the time. Good luck with being a doula I am sure it will be very hard and emotional but truly rewarding in the end.

I was feeling some of your symptoms nine months post-partum and my naturopathic doctor gave me a shot of vitamin B-12. It was the best thing ever. I felt like normal within hours.
If you are depleted in B-12 you’ll want the shot. Apparently stress strips your B-12, which makes you feel more stressed, which further strips the B-12 – or something like that.
    Antropologa mentioned Emergen-C and that’s awesome for a short-term pick-me up.

Dried apricots, spinach, hard boiled eggs, vit B-12 2 x’s per day, vit C(don’t know if you have a Wild Oats but they carry a great one called JuiCee, I think), possibly a prenatal. Naps and yoga along with some meditation. Lots of water, but you probably already do that. I use this stuff called Emergen-C, its a fizzy drink mix that comes in a lot of flavors and it gives me a little pep. Also, don’t forget your 3-6-9 omegas.
I asked my doc to run a blood panel to check for anemia and the like and if you are, they can give you B-12 injections that help with the fatigue.
